Week 20: Eska at Brixton Village late night Thursday (27th May)
Filipino food, BYOB, chats with the locals, free wine, community spirit, makeshift murals, photos from India, vintage clothes, chai tea, perching on milk-crates, DJ decks and videos.
And floating above it all, was the voice of Eska. She only sang for about 15 minutes, accompanying herself on the keyboard. But her beautiful, soul songs lifted the entire market for the time she was singing.

If I’m right, this is the same Eska Mtungwazi who has collaborated with a whole load of different artists, Soweto Kinch and Zero 7 included. A little bird told me she may just be a regular at the Brixton Village late night Thursdays. I may well have to go find out more for myself.
