Week 29: Prom 35 at the Albert Hall
I saw the Danish National Orchestra and choirs perform this at a Prom last week in the Albert Hall. The musicians and conductor were incredibly charismatic, hugging each other after the performance and exuding a real enthusiasm for playing (which if you’ve seen many British orchestras play, you’ll know that’s a rarity…)
Anyway, Lux Aeterna (translated as eternal light) is Ligeti’s most well known piece – it was even used in Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey and as the soundtrack to the terrifying Requiem for a Dream – and most definitely deserves a listen if you can carve a little bit of space into your day.
